Image: 173rd Airborne Brigade Mortarmen I worked in FDC for the year and a half (1967-1968) that I spent in Vietnam. The platoon I served with participated in all of the large operations conducted by the 173rd during that time and suffered numerous WIA’s. This platoon of men whose average age was 19 performed their duties in a manner that I’ve never witnessed by any group during my 40 years of work life. We were constantly in the field, and at one time, from May 67 to March 68 conducted combat operations without ever leaving the field. I don’t have much to say about myself but could write volumes about the extraordinary paratroopers I served with in this 4.2 mortar platoon.
