| This fantasy Wargaming figure set is cast in white metal and is from the CAV series of Reaper figures (Kit No 7062). There are six sets of mortar and crew with three bases provided in the package, with no assembly required unless the crews are being mounted to the bases. Casting is good for this scale but could be a little better defined in some areas and there are minimal mold parting lines present. Not being a Wargamer, I have no idea what the 'capabilities' of this mortar and crew are nor do I know what they are suppose to represent. (The remaining five sets and the three bases are available for sale. Contact me here if you are interested... US address only.) |
Painting was done entirely in acrylics, including the metal primer and final flat coat once the project was completed. Weathering consisted of first applying a wash of artist oils thinned with Turpenoid odorless brush cleaner. When thoroughly dry, a dry-brushing was lightly applied to bring out the details.
The base is cut to 2" (51 mm) in diameter, is from 2" x 4" (51 x 102 mm) pine stud and was routered along the top edge. The finish consists of an oil based oak stain and then sealed with three coats of polyurethane.
The landscape is built-up from a mix of Sculptamold, wood glue (aliphatic resin glue) and water and was applied after masking off of the wood with a lo-tak drafting tape. Finely sifted dirt, dried flower 'twigs' and kitty litter 'stones' were used sparingly and white glued into place prior to the groundwork setting up. This was all left to dry for a couple of days before painting.
Various shades of Bragdon Enterprises pastel weathering chalks were applied as a final 'dusting'.
Special thanks to the Optimizer Gods for giving me the magnification required to be able to see and paint these small figures.
