Three Dwarfs and a Mortar...

These 28mm white metal figures with a mortar were a gift sent to me from a friend in Belgium. They are produced by Alionas Miniatures of Germany and can be obtained from MBM Models in The Netherlands or from Alionas Miniatures themselves in Germany. Both firms offer world wide shipping. This subject was an exercise in absolute unadulterated complete and total fun! No other way to describe the assembly and painting of these little guys, a gal and (of course) the mortar!

Assembly consisted of a total of five parts. The three figures and the two-part mortar (tube and bipod) made up the contents of this kit. All of the parts had a very minor mold parting line that needed to be removed. This was achieved by lightly scrapping with a #11 X-Acto blade, a fine metal file and a light sanding with a very fine sandpaper designed for metal figures.

All painting and 'washing' was done entirely with acrylic paints. The most difficult part about painting this subject was in keeping a steady hand while laughing. I have a feeling that the LAF GAS filled bomb had a leak!! The beauty of doing a subject like this is that it is totally up to the imagination as to the colors, setting etc. This is what ever and where ever you want it to be!

The base is of scrap pine and is cut to 3-1/2 inches in diameter and routered with my Dremel Tool,  stained and sealed. Groundwork consists of a Sculptamold, water and white glue mix with a sprinkling of finely sifted (through an old nylon stocking) dirt from my yard.. The 'bushes' are shredded foam from Woodland Scenics and are white glued into place.

A wonderful break from the norm and I hope that you enjoy a few laughs with this subject as well!! I certainly hope to find more of these little fantasy mortar crews! (Please send more my dear Flemish friend!! :-))
