I served with the 4/64th Armor, 3rd Inf. Div. stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany in their Heavy Mortar Platoon (M106). In 1968-69, I was sent to Vietnam where I served with the 2/12th Infantry, 25th Inf. Div. stationed on a firebase outside of Trang Bang, we were ground mounted there. After serving my 3 years I ended up spending 19 years in the New Jersey Army National Guard in a 4.2” Mortar Platoon, as Platoon Sgt. First in an Armor Bn. then in a Cavalry Unit. I retired just prior to us going to the 120mm mortar. I have a real love for the four-deuce mortar and have seen it do many things not in the “book”.
