This representation of the British L16A1 has been generously donated to this collection by a good friend of mine that is a retired Canadian Forces Captain. It was originally purchased in 1973 and had been used as a training aid in the instruction of mortar gunnery, courses that this CF Captain has taught in the past. This miniature has long since been out of production with three (3) that are known to exist today.
Sir, my deepest appreciations go out to you. I thank you and I am honored to have made your acquaintance!
The Miniature:
This is a pre-constructed and pre-painted 1/8th scale miniature
that was produced by
Christopher Adams at the UK based Modern Military Miniatures.
Construction is entirely out of metal.
The details are extremely well cast and well represented. There are a few minor parting lines to be found, and my natural instinct as a scale modeler was to remove them and to repaint, but I decided to keep this model as is and in its original form. It is a beautiful miniature just as it is.
All that is required to display this miniature is to assemble the tube to the base plate and the bipod to the tube. The display base is included with the miniature. When assembled, this model measures approximately 7 inches [17-3/4 cm] tall.
General Info:
Developed in the late 1950's from components designed and built in the UK
and Canada, the L16A1 was initially deployed in 1961 and has been exported to at
least 39 countries since. It continues to serve in many of those countries as
front line equipment today (2004).
The L16A1 is capable of firing all standard NATO 81mm ammunitions as well as ammunitions being produced in other Commonwealth and former Commonwealth nations. It is also capable of utilizing modern day mortar gunnery computing systems for increased accuracies.
Please refer to the 1/1 Photo Shop page for actual live fire photos of this weapon in use with the Canadian Forces.
