Another fun-filled fantasy subject to add to this collection, this
Mortar Team is a product of Copplestone Castings and is finely cast in white metal. There were no imperfections found in my kit with very minor seam
removal being required. The only assembly being the mounting of the mortar tube
to the baseplate and bipod and these were fixed together with miniscule amounts
of two-part epoxy.
This set is
also designed for the Wargaming community of which I am not a participant
of. I enjoy these fantasy mortar teams as a break from the accuracies of the
normal modes of scale military modeling. This subject is no exception to
that rule. Pure enjoyment.
Acrylic paints
were used throughout this subject to include the airbrushing of a primer
coat. Weathering consisted of a wash of artist oils thinned with Turpenoid
odorless brush cleaner. Acrylic dry-brushing was lightly applied to bring out the details
and to finish the painting process, various shades of pastel weathering chalks were
applied as a final dusting.
The base is
of a Spanish Cedar and is
1-1/2 inches thick, measures 3-1/2 inches square at the bottom and and
tapers up to 2-5/8 inches square. I obtained this block a number of years
ago and I can not recall the type of finish used. It is a
beautiful piece of wood and makes an excellent looking base for a fantasy
type subject. There is a square felt pad fixed to the bottom.
The groundwork
is a mix of diluted white glue and Sculptamold and to this, finely
sifted dirt is sprinkled about with some dried flower 'bushes' and kitty
litter 'rocks' added. This is all fixed to the groundwork with white glue.
